Diesel Particulate Filter Cleaning Service
Talllman Truck Centre Limited now has its FSX four stage DPF cleaning machine up and running.

What is it and why is it important?
A DPF works in conjuction with the oxidation catilyst and EGR valve to remove a majority of the NOx particulate matter and unburned hydrocarbons from burned diesel fuel. Inside the DPF is a porous honecomb structure that catches the soot as it passes through. Over time the soot builds up causing the onboard computer controls fuel injection to allow unburned fuel to enter the filter at measured intervals where it flares off and generates increased temperature that incinerates the accumulated soot. The result: Soot is chopped by over 90%.
A dirty filter will not only affect the amount of emissions being produced but also the fuel economy of the vehicle. The longer the DPF goes without being cleaned the more you are going to start to deteriorate the DPF itself. This will result in a vehicle that can't be driven and a DPF which will be too damaged to be cleaned which means thousands of dollars to replace.
When should they be cleaned?
The magic number for trucks running 2007 EPA engines is 250,000 miles. After this point you start effecting you're fuel economy and the DPF itself.
